Hello and welcome to iEmily. We need to tell you a few things before you give us your user name, e-mail address, and any other information. If you are under 13, we must get one of your parents to agree to your giving us your e-mail address and other personal information. Because you can surf iEmily without giving us your name or e-mail address, you don't have to have your parents' permission (but you might want to talk to them about our Web site).

You have to give us your e-mail address and user name if you want to join a chat room or post a message on a message board. And before you do that, one of your parents or a guardian must agree that it is okay for you to give us that information and participate. So please ask one of your parents to read this Web page. If they agree, you can post messages to chat rooms and message boards. We also need a parent or guardian's permission if you want to submit a story to iEmily or to participate as an Ambassador or be a part of one of our advisory groups.

Direct Notice to Parents

It is iEmily's intention to adhere to the Children's Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA). This notice describes our practices of collecting, using, and disclosing personal information from children under 13. Our policies are described below. We also suggest that you review our general privacy statement and security statement by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.

We describe our policies in the following order: 1. Parental consent required, 2. The information we collect, 3. How we collect the information, 4. How we use the information, 5. Disclosure of the information, 6. Parental consent, 7. New consent if change in policy, 8. Account revisions, 9. Revoking and deleting your consent.

If you have any questions about these policies, you may contact us by e-mail at iemilyinfo@.com.

  1. Parental Consent Required
iEmily wishes to collect personal information from your child, but we need your consent before we collect, use, or disclose the information. We will not collect this information until we have received your consent. You will find instructions on how to give your consent below.

  1. The Information We Collect
  • Personal Information

At iEmily, we collect limited personal information. Generally, we collect only online contact information, including your child's name, e-mail address, and age. Depending upon the activities your child chooses to do on iEmily, your child may be asked to provide personal information. However, your child is not required to provide any information to us to access most of our site, and we will not obtain personal information about your child when she visits our site unless your child chooses to give such information to us, and we have your permission.

In fact, we have adopted this privacy and confidentiality policy so children can participate in our activities without giving out unnecessary personal information. We do not require a user to disclose more information than is reasonably necessary to participate in an activity as a condition of participation. For example, we do not require users to provide any personal information such as real names, postal addresses, or telephone numbers in order to use this site. However, we do require users to provide their e-mail address when they register for forums and chat rooms.

We also allow a parent to review his or her child's personal information, ask to have it deleted, and refuse to allow any further collection or use of his or her child's information. (See below for further instructions.)

  • Non-Personal Information

We may also collect what is known as non-personally identifiable information. For example, we may collect certain non-personally identifiable information when you visit many of our Web pages such as the type of browser you are using (e.g., Netscape, Internet Explorer), the type of operating system you are using (e.g., Windows '95, Mac OS), and the domain name of your Internet service provider (e.g., America Online, Earthlink).

  • We May Collect Additional Information in the Future

As we expand the services we provide on our site, we may collect additional types of personal information. We will ask you for your permission before collecting any of this additional information from your child.

  1. How We Collect the Information
In addition to the information that your child may give us directly, we may collect some non-personal information indirectly.

  • Cookies

"Cookies" are text files we put in your computer's browser to store information. Cookies help us figure out the kind of information your child does or does not want to read. Cookies also give us information to help us offer your child products, programs, and services that she'd like. We also use cookies to make your child's experience using our Web site easier. For example, cookies help us recognize your child's name each time she comes back to our site or save her password in password-protected areas. Once you have given your permission, iEmily will indirectly collect your child's log-in name and password through cookies. This allows the child to register for chat rooms and forums only once.

Cookies, by themselves, do not tell us your child's e-mail address or other personally identifiable information. However, if you give your permission and your child gives us personally identifiable information, for example, by registering on our site, this information may be linked to the data stored in the cookies.

  • Surveys

In addition to the information we collect when your child registers on iEmily, we may ask your child to fill out a survey to provide us with general information about his or her interests, preferences, and products he or she likes to use.

When iEmily sends out a survey, it does so to collect only aggregate information on the users. We will use the surveys to get general feedback on the site itself, information on topics the users are interested in, and the users' purchasing preferences. The information collected is for internal use only and no personally identifiable information will ever be sold or shared with our third-party sponsors.

  • Collection of Information by Third-Party Sites and Sponsors

Third-party sites and sponsors do not have the ability to collect personal information off our site.

  • Banner Ads and Links to Other Sites

Banner advertisers with iEmily are able to collect information about users, but iEmily is not always able to bind banner advertisers to iEmily's privacy policies. If you click on a banner ad, this privacy policy does not apply. You should check the banner ad's Web site to determine its privacy policy.

In some cases and from time to time, iEmily may have arrangements with third parties who provide or track sponsored links that we believe may be of value to you. iEmily does not permit these third parties to collect personal information from you without your explicit permission. However, iEmily cannot control the activities of any third parties once you leave our Web site. If you have questions about the privacy policies of such third parties, we suggest contacting them directly or visiting their Web sites to review their posted privacy policies.

You have the option to agree to our collecting and using your child's personal information without agreeing to the disclosure of the information to third parties, such as banner advertisers. That is, you can give us consent to allow your child to participate in activities on iEmily without consenting to our disclosing your child's information to third parties.

  1. How We Use the Information
This is how we will handle information we learn about your child's visit to our Website.

The personal information we collect is used mainly for internal purposes. We do not disclose this information to third parties. Some of the ways we may use your child's personal information include: sending e-newsletters, updates, health tips, and surveys on the site content to those users who have requested or consented to receiving such information.

  • E-Mail Addresses

A child must give us an e-mail address in order to register for the chat rooms and message boards. The e-mail address is kept for identification purposes only, and under no circumstances is it displayed or made publicly available. We also use e-mail addresses to send e-newsletters, updates, health tips, and surveys on the site content to those users who have requested or consented to receiving such information.

  • Chat Rooms/ Message Boards

iEmily provides access to chat rooms and message boards. The information collected during the registration process for chat rooms and message boards is used only to assign the user a name and password so that they can post to the boards and chat rooms. We check our chat rooms, message boards, and other forums regularly for inappropriate comments. We use e-mail addresses to block users who post inappropriate comments. iEmily monitors its chat rooms, message boards, and other forums to help stop inappropriate materials from being posted. Our Terms and Conditions page outlines our policy on using chat rooms, message boards and other public forums on our Web site.

  • Use of Non-Personally Identifiable and Aggregate Information

We sometimes use non-personally identifiable or "aggregate information" that we collect to improve the design and content of our site and to help us to personalize your child's iEmily experience. iEmily may combine health-related information that your child has given us with information that other iEmily users give us in order to create "aggregate data." Aggregate data is not information that could be used to identify you or your child or to contact you or your child.

  • Profiling

We also create "profiles" about our anonymous users in order to figure out the best way to advertise to iEmily's users.

  1. Disclosure of the Information
iEmily will not disclose your child's personal information to any third party without your express prior authorization. However, iEmily may disclose aggregate data to third parties. After iEmily collects users' log-in names and passwords through cookies, we also may use this information in the aggregate to analyze site usage, as well as to offer products, programs, or services. We track the total number of visitors to our site and the popularity of each area. This information helps us provide a technically smooth and creatively fun online experience for all our visitors. We may share some of this aggregated information with third parties.

You have the option to agree to our collecting and using your child's personal information without agreeing to the disclosure of the information to third parties. That is, your child can participate in activities on iEmily without your consenting to our disclosing your personal information to third parties.

No identifiable information from the Web site will be used for any promotional or marketing purposes, or transferred to any third parties.

  • Chain of Trust Agreements

iEmily may use chain of trust agreements with its agents, advertisers, and other business partners.

  1. Parental Consent
As noted above, we need your consent before we permit your under-13-year-old daughter to post to our chat rooms and message boards, to participate in our Ambassador program, or to submit a story. The a child's personal information may be made publicly available through one of our chat rooms or message boards. While we use "screen names" rather than e-mail address and do not make your child's e-mail address publicly available on our chat rooms or message boards, we must have your consent for her use because she may provide such personal information when using the chat rooms or message board.

  1. New Consent If Change in This Policy
If we change the way we collect, use or disclosure your child's personal information we will send you a new notice and request for another consent. For example, if in the future we want to disclose the child's information to third parties we will provide you with a new notice and ask for your consent before we disclose any personal information to third parties.

  1. Account Revisions
You may review, correct, update, or delete your child's personal information that has been provided to us at any time. All you have to do is e-mail us at iemilyinfo@yahoo.com and we will contact you about reviewing and/or editing your child's information.

  1. Revoking and Deleting Your Consent
At any time, you may revoke your consent, refuse to allow us to further use or collect your child's personal information, and direct us to delete the information. If you revoke your consent, we will no longer permit your child to participate in certain activities on iEmily. For example, we require all users to provide their e-mail addresses to participate in a chat room. If, after giving consent, you ask us to delete your child's information, we may refuse to allow your child to participate in the chat room in the future. Other activities on iEmily do not require your child's personal information and your child will continue to have access to those activities. If you choose to delete your child's information, iEmily will not use it for any purpose except where required by applicable laws, regulations, or standards.

To revoke your consent, contact us by e-mail at iemilyinfo@yahoo.com.
