Servings: 1

Equipment: serrated knife

How long does it take?

5 minutes

What's in it?

1 fresh medium tomato
2 slices of Portuguese bread (or your favorite bread!)
2 teaspoons low-fat mayonnaise
salt and pepper to taste

How to make it:

Step 1: Prepare the tomato.
Wash the tomato and slice it into 1/4-inch slices.

Step 2: Assemble the sandwich.
Spread mayo on one slice of bread, top with tomato slices, and place second slice of bread on top.

Step 3: Slice and eat.

Chef's tip:

How do you tell a great fresh tomato from the flavorless hothouse variety? Smell it! A whiff of any tomato will tell you how the tomato will taste. If you smell nothing...skip it! This sandwich depends on the tomato for most of its appeal.
